Temporary care program:

What do we mean by temporary care:

This program helps to provide temporary care  before a pet owner gives up their pet to the shelter. It is for all who fall into an emergency situation and cannot take care of their pet for a period of time.
But do not want to loose the pet or give it up completely. Much like Foster care for children ( many of our pets are regarded as a child)
Some of the situations could be but not exclusively:
Loosing their home and need to move into an apartment for a time
Having to go to Hospital and do not have any one who can take care of your pet
Not being able to take care of a pet for a time being because...........

Is the Pet Food Pantry involved? No - we only bring the two parties - The  provider and the  seeker- together to make their own 'deal' - the Pet Food Pantry takes no responsibility for either party.
We just know how sad it is to have to give up your pet to the shelter, where there is no hope of getting it back.We believe that every pet and owner should have a chance of getting their life back together.

Is there a Fee? Yes a small donation is ask of the Foster care seeker. But not demanded.

WHO SHOULD GET INVOLVED:
If you are a Senior and in relative good health and want to stay in good health. Research has shown that seniors that care for a pet are living longer in better health.
If you are a senior that is lonely - we like to help you while you are helping some one else.
If you are an at home working person and have a lot of love for animals
If you have one or two animals dogs or cats and like to help another person keep their pets safe while they are in the hospital or away.
Any one who has  time love and room to give to a needy pet.

WHO SHOULD NOT be involved:
Any one with more than 4 pets (dogs, cats)
Any one who wants to make money with foster care
Any one who sees foster care as a trial towards adoption ( that maybe but the main purpose is to return the pet back to its owner after a period of not more than 6 month. Unless it is negotiated with the owner otherwise)
Any one who is not able to physical care for a pet.

What this Program IS NOT

I have discovered that there are a number of misconceptions about the true purpose of fostering a dog. Some people view fostering as a trial period to determine whether they want to adopt a dog permanently. Some start out with the right intentions, but become too attached to the dog and are unable to give it up. Others are only willing to foster one particular dog that they already feel an attachment to. Some potential adopters think fostering is a good way to get a free dog, free vet care and supplies. In my opinion, none of these attitudes reflect the true spirit or intent of foster care programs.
Fostering is not a way to get a free dog. It is not a trial period before adoption. And it certainly isn't easy. Fostering is a way to help a dog that really needs you. At times, it's incredibly stressful. It requires dedication, hard work, serious time commitments, lots of stain remover, and -- above all -- an understanding of the purpose of the process. If you can't give your heart to a dog and then let it go when it doesn't need you anymore, you probably shouldn't get involved.

DOES THE PET FOOD PANTRY MAKE MONEY WITH THIS?
No
We are a not - for profit organization. The owner of the pet or pets are encouraged to pay for food and health care of the pet - however in some cases the Pet Food Pantry may be able to help out. Sometimes our temporary care 'parents' will donate not only their time but also the pet food to feed the pet. Each case is different. The Food Pantry will take no responsibility in the process - we will however help as much as we can. Some foster care  arraignment might end up in permanent adoptions - but that is entirely up to the owner and the care provider and should not be the initial motivation.
